INSTRUCTOR PROFILES

Gaylynne Mann Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. Classes: Emergency Responder, CPR, First Aid, Babysitter Training, BAT (Basic Aid Training)

Gaylynne is the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the Woodside Fire Protection District. She began working for the Fire Protection District in 1999. Gaylynne serves as a liaison between the Towns of Portola Valley and Woodside, San Mateo County's Office of Emergency Services, Woodside Fire Protection District, the American Red Cross and CERPP. She is also an instructor of First Aid and CPR and an EMT.

John Carnes Classes: Search and Rescue, Emergency Response Training
John has been involved in wilderness search and rescue for 25 years, working with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team and responding to disasters throughout California. He has drilled with the Menlo Park FEMA urban search and rescue team and trained a search and rescue dog.Of the importance of neighborhood emergency response, John says: “Much of what I've learned has led me to believe that the most effective disaster response comes not from teams of outsiders, but from the people who are immediately involved.”

John is chairman of the CERPP Operations Committee and CERPP Skyline Division Leader.

Battalion Chief Armando Muela. Classes: CPR, First Aid, Emergency Responder
Armando studied fire science at CSM, and got his start in the fire service with The California Department of Forestry. From there he went to work at South San Francisco Fire and in 1979 became a paramedic. He was hired by Woodside Fire Protection District in 1994 to develop and promote a paramedic program. Since that time his job has expanded to EMS (Emergency Medical Services) coordinator for fire departments in Menlo Park, Woodside, Redwood City, and South County. His career has brought him full circle as he now serves as an EMT instructor at the College of San Mateo. Aramando has worked with a number of CERPP residents and teams and is impressed with the organization and its enthusiasm. He believes it is making a tremendous difference in the community.

Jerry Nave. Classes: CPR, Child car Seat Installation.
Jerry was hired by Woodside Fire Department in January of 1985 and became a paramedic in December 1998. For the past five years he has taught CPR for the fire protection district.Two years ago Jerry helped to bring "Safe Kids for San Mateo" to the south end of San Mateo County. He became certified by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration to install child car seats, and became a member of Safe Kids for San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. Over the past couple of years he has found many car seats are installed incorrectly, consequently he has devoted his time and energy in making sure that the children in our county travel safely. Rob Lindner

Lucy Clem. Classes: Emergency Responder CPR, First Aid, BAT and 
Babysitting Training .


Lucy joined WFPD in October 1996 and was the first female firefighter to be hired by the department. Before coming to Woodside, Lucy worked for The Department of Forestry for three fire seasons and, during the off season, for AMR in San Mateo County. In addition to her firefighter and medic responsibilities Lucy assits with Firefighters Academy and is a proctor for the EMT class. She is a motivator of children and enjoys teaching BAT (Basic Aid Training) which covers 11 safety topics for kids and baby sitter training. BAT is offered to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders and baby sitting will be taught, to anyone above the age of 11 years.

Captain Kevin Bianchini.

Captain Kevin Bianchinii has been with Woodside Fire for 20 years. Previously, he trained withthe San Francisco Fire Department, Kevin was one of the original NERT (Neighborhood Emergency Response Team) trainers for the Woodside Fire Protection District. A trained EMT, he has additional expertise in the handling of hazardous materials, rescue from swift water and fire prevention. Local residents also know Kevin as the owner of Bianchini's Market.

Captain Dan Ghiorso. Classes: First aid, CPR

Captain Ghiorso specializes in rescues and Emergency Medical Training (EMT) for the WFPD. Dan became interested in becoming a firefighter when he witnessed someone in full arrest. At that time dialing 911 was his only skill. Shortly after this experience he signed up for a CPR class with the South San Francisco Fire Department. An influential Fire Captain who was the instructor of the class encouraged Dan to become a firefighter. He completed the fire science courses and was hired by Woodside Fire in 1993. Dan was promoted to Captain April 1, 2001. Dan says helping people is what he enjoys best about his job. He sees CERPP's efforts to make residents self reliant during a major emergency as especially gratifying.

Rob Consani Firefighter/Paramedic. Classes: CPR.

Rob is an affiliate faculty of The American Heart Association. His primary responsibility with the Heart Association is to oversee the quality of training Woodside Fire Department offers the public. He has been a firefighter/paramedic since 1980. He came to Woodside Fire from South San Francisco fire in 1994.

 

Captain Emil Picchi. Classes: First responder first aid,CPR.

Captain Picchi joined the Woodside Fire team in 1994 from South City. He coordinates and instructs the community CPR and first aid programs. Captain Picchi is the lead instructor for the First Responder Advanced First Aid course, a three-month in-depth first aid course offered to residents of the fire protection district.

Steve Silici. Classes: CPR and First Aid.
Steve began his career with Woodside Fire Protection District in 1988 as a cadet. After serving 9 months, Steve worked for the next three years as an EMT for Lifecare. In 1991 he become certified as a paramedic and worked for AMR. His career took him to Riverside County and then back to San Mateo County working on an ambulance for eight years. In 1999 Steve returned to Woodside Fire Protection District as a firefighter/paramedic.
