ARE YOU PREPARED?

With just 40 staff members, the Woodside Fire Protection District (WFPD) supports the residents of Emerald Hills, Ladera, Los Trancos, Portola Valley, Vista Verde, Woodside and adjacent communities along Skyline. It serves the needs of over 16,000 residents in a 32 square-mile area. This includes 6,000 homes scattered along winding streets in hilly terrain.

In the event of a major earthquake, experts anticipate that about 10% or 600 homes in the area will be seriously damaged.

WFPD's three engine companies and one rescue company are geared to handle only three incidents at a time. Similarly, the Towns of Woodside and Portola Valley will be overwhelmed by calls for aid during the early stages of any major emergency. We need to be able to take care of ourselves -- perhaps for several days -- until the professionals arrive.
